چکیده

Pushdown systems (PDSs) are an automata-theoretic formalism for specifying a class of infinite-state transition systems. Infiniteness comes from the fact that each configuration 〈p, S〉 in the state space consists of a (formal) “control location” p coupled with a stack S of unbounded size. PDSs can model program paths that have matching calls and returns, and automaton-based representations allow analysis algorithms to account for the infinite control state space of recursive programs. Weighted pushdown systems (WPDSs) are a generalization of PDSs that add a general “black-box” abstraction for program data (through weights). WPDSs also generalize other frameworks for interprocedural analysis, such as the Sharir-Pnueli functional approach. This paper surveys recent work in this area, and establishes a few new connections with existing work.

Extended Weighted Pushdown Systems

Recent work on weighted-pushdown systems shows how to generalize interprocedural-dataflow analysis to answer “stack-qualified queries”, which answer the question “what dataflow values hold at a program node for a particular set of calling contexts?” The generalization, however, does not account for precise handling of local variables. Extended-weighted-pushdown systems address this issue, and p...

Weighted Pushdown Systems with Indexed Weight Domains

The reachability analysis of weighted pushdown systems is a very powerful technique in verification and analysis of recursive programs. Each transition rule of a weighted pushdown system is associated with an element of a bounded semiring representing the weight of the rule. However, we have realized that the restriction of the boundedness is too strict and the formulation of weighted pushdown ...

Weighted Pushdown Systems and Weighted Transducers

Pushdown Systems (PDSs) are an important formalism for modeling programs. Reachability analysis on PDSs has been used extensively for program verification. A key result, which made PDSs popular in the model-checking community was that the set of reachable stack configurations starting from a regular set of configurations is also regular. A more general result was given by Caucal [7] who showed ...

Weighted Dynamic Pushdown Networks

We develop a generic framework for the analysis of programs with recursive procedures and dynamic process creation. To this end we combine the approach of weighted pushdown systems (WPDS) with the model of dynamic pushdown networks (DPN). The resulting model, weighted dynamic pushdown networks (WDPN), describes processes running in parallel, each of them being able to perform pushdown actions, ...

Forward Analysis of Dynamic Network of Pushdown Systems Is Easier without Order

Dynamic networks of Pushdown Systems (PDN in short) have been introduced to perform static analysis of concurrent programs that may spawn threads dynamically. In this model the set of successors of a regular set of configurations can be non-regular, making forward analysis of these models difficult. We refine the model by adding the associativecommutative properties of parallel composition, and...
